Goals, Habits, and Loving Your Kidneys

Happy New Year!

I get way too excited about planning a new year. Seriously, just the thought of setting new goals and starting new calendars makes me giddy. With a freshly set up bullet journal in one hand, and a perfectly chosen pen in the other (I am also a bit obsessed with pens…) I can conquer the world. Or, in the very least I can conquer my laundry pile. Right? Surely.

My word for 2016 is “Habits”. I have felt drawn over and over to the thought of our whole life being a set of habits. I’ve read several fascinating books about the subject and have decided that one of my goals for 2016 is to work on changing habits that are not beneficial to me and adding ones that can set me up for health and success. I’ll share more about that in another post, so stay tuned.

I’ve also been reading quite a bit on the subject of goal setting, and so many of the things I’ve read stress that you are almost 80% more likely to reach your goal if you do two simple things:

1. Write them down 2. Keep them visible.

In light of those findings I am setting up my goals for 2016 very prominently in our home, but I also wanted to publicly share them with you. Nothing like accountability to push you toward the finish line!

  1. 140 by 40.  This is the year I turn 40 (Woohoo! No seriously, I’m excited) and I plan to, as my husband says, “Round house kick 40 in the face”. My birthday is August 23, so I have roughly 8 months to lose 20 pounds which is completely doable. I’ll be breaking this one large goal down into monthly smaller goals so that it’s not overwhelming. I’ll keep you updated on my progress!
  2. Bring in X amount of money monthly from multiple streams of income. I say “X” because I just feel a little funny sharing with you the actual number I’ve decided on. My husband and I are on the Dave Ramsey plan to pay down our debt and be better stewards of our money to be more free to do what God wants us to do with our resources. I am a stay at home momma, but I want to contribute to our goals as well, so I’m working hard to not only monetize my two blogs, but also putting time into several other avenues of income.   3. Change 12 Habits: 1 habit a month for the year. This will involve both changing bad habits and adding new ones. I have a list of 12 issues in my life that need overhauling so I’m going with a “Change One” approach. When I try to do too many things at once it inevitably fails, so I’m taking it slow and easy. January habit: water! I drink coffee all day. It’s terrible.  My kidneys have been screaming for me to drink more water for years. I’ve decided my kidneys are pretty important, so I’m stepping up.

There you go. Feel free to ask how it’s going or yell at me to step it up! What good is community without accountability? Here’s to a monumental year!
